laugh out loud = lol
LOL (also written with some or all letters lowercase) is an abbreviation for laughing out loud[1][2] or laugh out loud.[3] LOL is a common element of Internet slang used historically on Usenet, but now widespread in other forms of computer-mediated communication, and even face-to-face communication. It is one of many initialisms for expressing bodily reactions, in particular laughter, as text, including initialisms such as ROTFL[4][5][6][7] or ROFL [8] ("roll(ing) on the floor laughing"), a more emphatic expression of laughter, and BWL ("bursting with laughter"), above which there is "no greater compliment" according to technology columnist Larry Magid.[9] Other unrelated expansions include the now mostly historical "lots of luck" or "lots of love" used in letter-writing.[10]

Sit and Go BankrollStrategy for Online Poker
Sit and Go BankrollStrategy for Online Poker
I recently sat in a nine seated, sit and go tournament on full tilt poker and during the first few hands, as I usually do, I sharkscoped all of my opponents. The tournament cost $10 plus one dollar for administration fee to get in and I was just being my same dutiful self in making sure I had any available advance information on my opponents.
I guess what I found shouldn't be so shocking to me anymore, because the bottom line in online poker is that more than 75% of all players lose money. The picture of profiles I was looking at with all my opponents at this table confirmed why that 75% marker is so believable. Not only did each and every one of my opponents have a losing record mired in red, each one of them were also plenty of their bankroll given the amount that they had not in online poker.
Sit and go tournament's are in my view the best and easiest, and most conservative way to learn the game and build your bankroll online. You may be one of those players who go online to play poker purely entertainment and social value. If you are, I don't know why you're wasting time on this website just go have some fun. If you are however one of the few players who are committed to improving your game and learning the basics of bankroll management using sit and go tournaments, then keep reading.
There is absolutely no reason at all given the state of the majority of opponents you find it online poker that you cannot start to build poker bankroll online using other players' money. Some successful players have even started with zero dollars. You don't have to be packed stringent on your budget, but if you do make a deposit to deposit more than $50 or $100. Depositing this amount will require that you play some relatively low buy-in sit and go tournaments. I mean like one dollar, two dollar, and working your way up to five dollar sit and go tournaments.
To be successful sit and go tournaments, you need to learn to play your opponents each and every level that you tackle. A lot of players complain about these lower levels because of be enormous amount of suck outs their opponents make. In reality, the more frequent those types of errors are made by your opponents - even if it means you losing a big pot - the more profitable those tables will be for you. It's all about how you just do your opponents, and that can be the one dollar level or the $1000 sit and go competition.
The reason you should start with such low deposits is that it forces you to learn the game at each level before moving up to a level that you might not be competent at- yet! There is an added benefit in doing this as well, in fact like building your bankroll and keeping your deposits to a minimum you are essentially playing with other players' money. Now it's not as easy as it sounds to be sure. You may actually have to reload to be made even four times with your $50 deposit. But if you find you have to do that a few times you have definitely saved yourself all lot of money on bigger deposits because obviously you weren't ready tougher competition or the type of opponents that you are actually facing.
I introduced the 50/250 rule, which basically applies strategy you holding your $50 deposit into a $250 bankroll before you start moving to higher levels such as $10 sit and go tournaments. In that sense you will have earned the right to move up because you have been a proven profitable player at the levels just below it.
After that, it's pretty easy to apply a maximum 5% buy in based on your bankroll in order to keep your budget check. For example you have $300 bankroll you wouldn't play tournaments that cost you more than $15. Keep the 5% in mind though as amaximum, where really you should be looking at something closer to 2% and 3% maximum buy-in.
This really may sound too conservative to a lot of new players. Esspecially those players just getting into the game and expecting that profits will come much quicker and easier than what I am portraying here. For a very small percentage of the online player population that may be true, they're the ones that probably don't need help and may be extremely talented or extremely lucky. Don't count yourself in that group. It's a poker bankroll mistake.
Sit and Go Points
Money management in online poker
To be a successful poker player you have to be able to exercise good bankroll management skills. If you are unable to manage your poker money correctly, you will never be able to become a long term winning poker player. Even if you were the best player in the world, it would be impossible to be able to make money from poker if you did not use good money management skills.
Bankroll management basically involves playing at a certain levels and buy-ins to help prevent yourself from going broke at the poker table. You have to set yourself limits to where you can play poker due to the variance found in every poker game. There are always going to be times where you have runs of bad luck that you cannot control, and you will lose money due to the bad runs of cards, and not necessarily due to any bad play. Therefore there is no use in putting all of your poker money on one table, because there is a good chance that you will lose it all and not be able to continue playing poker.
As a result, it is important that we have a large enough bankroll to absorb the effects of this variance so that we can continue to play poker even when we have very bad runs of cards. In addition, we don’t want to go over the top and play at micro levels with a huge bankroll because it is unlikely that we will go broke, and we want to give ourselves the opportunity to win a decent amount of money from our poker sessions. Therefore there are useful rules that you can follow to make sure that you give yourself the best opportunity to make money from poker without going broke.

To give an example, make a habit out of checking the stack sizes in comparison to the pot size. Do it every time, every hand, regardless of what you hold. Make it a habit and eventually you will do it without thinking about it.
Creating correct habits is harder than most people think. Not only do we not get the correct processes to our subconscious, sometimes we get BAD processes executed subconsciously and that's pretty hard to reverse.
As you can see there's a lot beneath the surface of your average poker hand. You must always be evaluating and reevaluating what your goals are in your hand.
It may start out as a bluff and by the end turn into a value bet. So do yourself a favor. Stop just acting instinctually, and start giving each decision the attention it deserves.
Ask yourself why, and ask yourself what you hope to accomplish before you act. It will help your game immensely.

Small Ball Poker

Small Ball Poker
"Small Ball" is an advanced style of play that was coined by Daniel Negreanu
It is hard to give Negreanu full credit for this style of play, because there is a very good chance that this style of play had previously been employed by many professional poker players but just hadn't named it.
What is small ball poker?
Essentially, small ball poker involves playing a wider range of starting hands more aggressively, but only using small bets and raises to save you from losing too much money when certain plays do not work out.
Small ball poker is intended to primarily be used in MTTs as opposed to SNGs and cash games.
Small ball poker video.
This video gives a basic overview of the small ball playing style.
It's impressively cheesy with some comically bad acting thrown in to the mix, but all the essential information for basic small ball strategy is there.
Apparently 57s is a hand good for flopping full houses. Also, 1:54 - 1:58 is fairly amusing.
Why can small ball poker be effective?
- Loose table image.
- Opponents will call more often with weaker hands.
- You can exploit this when you hold a strong hand.
This style of play can be very effective because you create a very loose table image for yourself. Therefore you should receive more action from opponents when you do have a big hand because they will perceive you as a loose aggressive player, and may feel that you are more likely to try and bluff them out of the pot.
If you play small ball poker correctly, in the long run the amount you win from opponents when they call you down with sub standard hands should outweigh the amount you lose from making consistent raises and bets without a strong hand. This is a reason why it is important to make small raises and bets instead of large, stronger bets.
Small ball poker benefits from players who call you down with mediocre hands because they do not give you credit for holding a strong hand.
The image you project onto the other players at the table is key to the success of the small ball concept. As already mentioned, the reason why this style of play is so effective is because your opponents will be more willing to call you down with marginal hands because of the way you have played in previous hands. So essentially, the small bets and raises that you may win or lose pots with in earlier hands are just setting you up for bigger hands later on in the session.
Opponents must be aware of your style of play for small ball poker to work.
It is important to remember that you are relying on your opponents to be aware of the way you are playing for small ball poker to be successful. If your opponents are not thinking about how you are playing, then you are going to have limited success.
If other players at the table are loose and are going to call your bets regardless of what table image you project, then you are better off playing a tight-aggressive style rather than small ball poker.
How to play small ball poker.
- Small ball poker tips.
- Play as many hands in position as you can.
- Learn how to play post-flop well.
- Use good starting hand selection.
- When playing weaker starting hands, play hands that have drawing potential (can make flushes or straights).
When playing small ball, you have to try and take advantage of position as frequently as possible. It is not going to be an effective style of playing if you are raising 2.5BB from under the gun or in any early position on a regular basis. The chances are that you are going to get a caller and be out of position in a pot with a hand that is probably marginal.
Save the raises for when you are closer to the button and there are little to no players already in the pot. Playing small ball poker relies on you being able to play well post flop because you are entering so many pots and allowing other players to do so cheaply. It is going to be far easier to outplay your opponents if there are less of them in the hand and if you have position.
You have to be an experienced player to be able to profitably employ the small ball playing style.
Small ball poker starting hand selection.
Another key point to playing successful small ball poker is starting hand selection. If you are going to enter a pot by raising with a less than a premium hand, then it is important that the hand you raise with has some kind of potential.
Although we are raising with less than premium hands, it does not necessarily mean that are trying to take down the blinds alone on every hand. There is a high chance that we are going to get a caller because our raises are relatively small, and so we are going to need a hand that we can work with after the flop.
The type of hands we want to play when playing small ball are connecting cards and suited cards that have some potential if/when we go to the flop.
By playing hands with potential it gives us some room to make plays and possibly make very strong hands on or after the flop. However, you should avoid getting too involved in hands when you hit middle or top pair. The chances are you will have a weak kicker, and as a general rule these types of pots should never become too big if you are going to win them.
Where is small ball poker most effective?
Small ball poker is going to be most effective in situations where the blinds are small relative to the size of the stacks. Therefore, this will be at the start of MTTs and SNGs and in cash games.
Small ball would be most suited to cash games and the early stages of tournaments.
Toward the end of tournaments the blinds will usually be too great in relation to the size of the stacks to play small ball, as there will be little room post flop plays. The last thing you want to be doing in a tournament is committing a quarter or more of your stack into a pot with a marginal hand before the flop.
Small ball would therefore be most effective at the start of tournaments. It would be fine to use in MTTs, but with SNGs there is a problem in that the structure is usually quite fast, and the period to play effective small ball will not last for long.
In addition, the image you create will become almost worthless near the end of the SNG tournament because the blinds will become so great that opponents will be forced into folding or calling regardless of what your image might have been at the start of the tournament.
What do I think of small ball poker?
Small ball poker is basically playing LAG but making smaller bet amounts.
Raising small amounts from any position at the table with marginal hands in an attempt to recreate the "small ball" style of play is not going to be a successful strategy in my opinion. In spite of this, there are actually a few genuinely effective elements to the small ball style though, such as:
- Using your position to your advantage. Basically not just playing your cards but playing your position.
- Playing more aggressively to help you "buy position".
I believe that amateur players who attempt to emulate small ball poker will get themselves in to tricky situations. You definitely need a good post-flop game to be able to play small ball poker (or should I just say LAG?).
As your game improves you may develop in to more of a loose-aggressive style of play, but that will not necessarily be "small ball poker". I believe that Daniel Negreanu may be trying a little too hard to coin a super-awesome new playing style that will take over the world of poker, but at the end of the day it's just a weak variation on an existing one.
